Why this course?

For anyone wanting to try out powerboating, this is the ideal course. Even though it’s goal is to teach significant things about boat handling and safety you are under no pressure and importantly it’s great fun!

 

Since the Level 1 course is available to most age groups and powerboating is a very family oriented activity It’s also a great way to introduce the kids to safety on the water.

Appropriate clothing: Weather conditions on the water can change quickly. Please bring warm, waterproof clothing to stay comfortable. We do not provide clothing.

The course will start and end at:

Seaforce Powerboats, Kelvin Harbour, 150 Pointhouse Place, Glasgow, G3 8RS

Please arrive 10 minutes early.

Next to Riverside Museum & Tall Ship. Easily accessible by walking, cycling, car, bus, train, and subway.

Parking Update – Please Plan Ahead

Riverside Museum car park capacity has been significantly reduced and spaces are now very limited. Please plan ahead, allow extra time, or consider alternative transport.

Course Timings

Start Time

The course will start at 0900. Please arrive on time. 

Lunch Time

We usually take 30 minutes for a lunch break. You are welcome to use our kitchen to heat your food. We have a Kettle, Microwave, Small oven, and utensils. You can also head out to the museum for lunch, or pop across to the bakeries in Govan.

Finish Time

The course should finish at 1500, however we may finish earlier or later depending on your progress. Please let us know if you need flexibility with timings and we can work around you.

FAQs

  • You may experience some spray depending on conditions, but generally you’ll stay dry unless it’s raining.

  • Wear warm, comfortable clothing suitable for the weather, including waterproofs. Conditions can change quickly on the water. We do not provide clothing.

  • The course is mainly practical, with time spent on the water learning by doing, supported by some short theory sessions.

  • Your safety is our priority. If conditions are unsuitable, we will contact you to rearrange your course.

  • Most people continue to RYA Powerboat Level 2, where you’ll gain more advanced skills and the confidence to operate a powerboat independently.

  • Level 1 is an introduction. Most people progress to Powerboat Level 2, which is the recognised standard for independent boating and can be used for ICC applications (being able to drive boats abroad).

  • Absolutely - this course is specifically designed to give beginners a safe, enjoyable and confidence-building first experience on the water.
